How do you know it is time for a Kitchen Remodel?

Are you still living in the 90’s, 80’s perhaps even the 70’s?  Well maybe you are aren’t but parts of your home might be.  If you still have shag carpet and wood paneling these would be sure indicators that you need to remodel.  What about the more subtle hints or things you don’t see?  It’s one thing for the space not to be your style or a little dated, but how do you really know it is time for a kitchen remodel?  Take a look a the list below, if you relate to any of them it might be time to start saving for that remodel.

1.  Is there enough space?  Many people complain about the amount of space within their kitchen, whether that be counter space or the size and function of the kitchen.  Storage is another factor to consider.  If you don’t have adequate space to put your pots and pans and groceries it might be time to consider getting and update in order to suite your needs.

2.  Too many Cooks in the Kitchen:  Kitchens have evolved into quite the social spot in the home.  If your kitchen is still designed for only one cook it might be time to reconsider that layout for something with an open concept that can accommodate a more social environment.

3.  Updated Appliances:  If your kitchen looks like it is from the Brady Brunch or an episode of I Love Lucy it might be time to consider remodeling.  Appliances have come a long way over the past 25 years, and many are much more energy efficient which could save you money over the course of time.

4.   Growing Family:  Maybe you bought your home when you were a family of 2 and now you are a family of 4.  The function of your space has now changed and much more storage is needed then previous years.  Another factor when it comes to children and your space is safety.  Appliances might need to be relocated and sharp counter corners may need to be changed out. Children are definitely a factor to think about when it comes to updating your space.

There are many things to consider when it comes to any home remodel.  Make sure to take into consideration and functions of you and your family.  If it is done right your remodel can last you 20 plus years, so make sure it is a space you will truly enjoy.
